Morristown Parents Endow Scholarship in Memory of Their Son

Dean and Priscilla Mills of Morristown, Tennessee, have given the university $25,000 to endow a scholarship in memory of their son Jonathan, who died in 2016 at age 28 of complications from an asthma attack.

“We have so many good memories, and Jonathan had many, many friends and extended family who loved him and will always remember him,” the Millses in a statement.

The Jonathan Dean Mills Scholarship will be awarded to a UT junior or senior from East Tennessee majoring in a science or medical-related field who is an active community volunteer. Mills, who majored in biological sciences, assisted in opening a medical clinic in Morristown, and served as its chief operating officer. As a member of Phi Delta Gamma fraternity, he assisted with philanthropic activities, including the Love Kitchen.

“We, as Jonathan’s family, wanted to continue his love for humanity and his quest for giving back,” the statement continued. “Therefore, knowing his love for UT and the sports, fraternity, and education there, we decided to establish the Jonathan Dean Mills Endowment Scholarship Fund so that he will always be remembered as someone who will forever be giving back.”

Those who wish to contribute to the endowment can do so online.
