The midway lights have gone down for another year, signaling the close of the 2017 Jefferson County Fair. Saturday was the final day of neon fun for fair goers, as the midway had an abbreviated stay for the 2017 season, opening for only five evenings. Other traditional events, such as the crowning of the 2017 Fairest of the Fair, as well as many other pageant competitions, took place pre-midway kickoff and stretched the fun out for a few extra days. As usual, there were crowd favorites, fun food, and exhibits to enjoy during this year’s event. Perhaps one of the most anticipated events comes the final evening of the Fair in the form of the Derby, where locals go head-to-head, or bumper-to-bumper, to be the last, best automobile still moving. Though the Jefferson County Fair has closed for the 2017 season, fair lovers are already anticipating what 2018 will bring when the midway, once again, rolls into town!
