The United Way of Jefferson County hosted their annual parade of tables fund raising event to kick off the 2017 fund raising season. Participating businesses “purchased” a table and decorated it in the theme of their choice. Tuesday evening’s event began with a viewing of the various, creative table decorations, as well as silent auction items that were donated to jump start the fund raising effort. Guest Speaker for the festivities was Jefferson County native and accomplished athlete and coach, Carolyn Peck. Also speaking was fund raising chair for Jefferson County, Trevor Hodgson of Overman USA in Dandridge. Introducing the speakers was Richard Hall of Modern Woodman and acting as MC for the event was Charles Gibson, Administrator of Elections for Jefferson County. Both Hall and Gibson are familiar faces for those returning event goers, having served the United Way for several years in a volunteer capacity.

Parade of Tables and Silent Auction have become a highly anticipated event with this year’s participating numbers outdistancing the previous years. Winner for the crowd favorite table presentation, which is determined by the table that has the largest cash contribution during the voting period, was Volunteer Spirits who presented a chic black and white theme. Accepting the award for Volunteer Spirits was Betty Watkins.

The United Way is a charitable organization that is dedicated to improving conditions in local communities, meeting the needs where they exist. It is the largest charitable organization in the world, with more than 1800 local chapters.
