BILL RAY SHANDS

BILL RAY SHANDS, age 80, of Jefferson City, TN passed away at home September 19, 2017 following a lingering illness. He was a faithful member of Flat Gap Baptist Church, and was serving as a Trustee at the time of his death. He served his country for two years in the U. S. Army and then three years in the U. S. Air Force. During his life time he was involved in Little League and was a member of Jaycees. His working career began with Shands Construction, later working at New Jersey Zinc, and was with American Enka, BASF and IPI until his retirement. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Preceded in death by parents, Opal and Arlie Shands; son, Michael; sister, Joelene Denton and husband Jim; brothers, Bobby, Jackie, Jerry and wife Sue, Ronnie and Daniel (Butch) Shands; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alma and Marshall Hinchey; brothers-in-law, Al and Max Hinchey, and Don Lockhart. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Patsy; daughter, Renee` Jarnigan of Jefferson City; son, Jimmy (Florence) Shands of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Michael Jr., Tonya, Christina, and Felisha; sister-in-law, Kathleen Lockhart; brother-in-law, Sam (Yvonne) Hinchey; and special grand-dogs, Milo and Otis; special caretakers, Stephanie Voorhees, Jason Lockhart, Nelson Newman and Ray Penley; special godson, Grant Roden. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Hinchey and Rev. Gabe Walker officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will gather at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. military graveside service with honors by VFW Post # 5266. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flat Gap Baptist Church, 515 Hinchey Hollow Road, New Market, TN 37820, or Jefferson County Humane Society, PO Box 653, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
