Jefferson City Mayor Mark Potts announced his candidacy for Jefferson County Mayor, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at a gathering at the Jefferson City Library. Mayor Potts said “I want to thank my family, because without their support, I wouldn’t be able to do it.”  I think it is time for Jefferson County to have a change, and I would like to see us go a new direction. I would like to provide new leadership for a new vision. I pledge that I will work with County Commission, to accomplish things and make things happen in our County to make it better and enhance what we do. I was born in White Pine, grew up in Swannsylvania, went to school in Dandridge, was in the first class to graduate at the new high school (JCHS), and then attended Carson-Newman College. I love Jefferson County.”

Potts’ vision and motto for the election will be “New Vision, New Leadership and New Direction.” During his address he stated that the reason he is announcing so soon is to give his staff and the City of Jefferson ample notice to make adjustments.
