Carson-Newman’s Lyric Theatre Presents Musical Oct. 20-23

Carson-Newman University’s Theatre Department will present Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as a part of homecoming week.

The musical runs Oct. 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. in Gentry Auditorium. Tickets are now on sale.

The musical, by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, is a reimagining of the Genesis story of Jacob’s favorite son, Joseph, along with his eleven brothers and perhaps the most famous garment of all-time. Told entirely through song, the musical follows Joseph’s journey after being sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely imprisoned in Egypt, elevated to Pharaoh’s
right-hand man and ultimately reunited with his family.

“The music is full of energy and at the heart of the story is an incredibly compelling message of how one man’s faith, and God’s faithfulness, changed anation,” said co-director Kyle Biery.  “Joseph is an enjoyable production for all ages,  simply a great evening in the theatre”.

The production features a variety of musical styles, from a parody of French ballads to country-western, 50s rock-n-roll and calypso.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors 60 and over and $5 for Carson-Newman students, faculty and staff. They and may be purchased from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Gentry Box Office or by phone at 865-471-4163.

Gentry Auditorium is located in the University’s Henderson Humanities Building.
