Thanksgiving Fare with Local Flair: Green Bean Casserole

Thanksgiving can be one of the happiest holidays of the year, but can, at the same time, be one of the most stressful. This is doubly true for those families who are hosting the holiday for the first time. To make your holiday season just a little easier, Jefferson County Post feature writer Elizabeth Lane presents Thanksgiving Fare with Local Flair, a series of local-favorite recipes that will help alleviate that last minute scramble for dishes. This time we’ll be cooking green bean casserole. To make this dish you will need:

2 cans of choice green beans

1 can of cream of mushroom soup

¾ cup of milk

1/8 tsp of pepper

1 ½ cup French fried onions

½ cup of cheddar cheese

Now that all of your ingredients have been gathered here is how to procced:

Mix green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk and cheese together in 2 quart casserole dish

Add pepper

Top with remaining French Fried Onion straws

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until hot

Although this recipe may seem simple, it is a perfect traditional dish for those newcoming Thanksgiving chefs who may be feeling the holiday pressure. It is direct enough that you are not overwhelmed by all the ingredients, but will still get you points at dinner. This recipe is credited to Donna Lane, who comes from a long line of fantastic Southern cooks. Donna loves to cook and bake in her spare time, much to the joy of her family.
