Public Advisory for Undeclared Allergens

The Consumer and Industry Services Division of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) is issuing a public advisory for undeclared peanuts and almonds detected in five energy bar products sold in Tennessee.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts or almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

During routine inspection of manufactured food products sold by eBars, LLC, lab results of five eBars products tested positive for allergens. Peanuts were detected in the following products without being indicated on the ingredient list:

  • “DiaBEATic” Chocolate Berry Crunch, lot # V0128-1
  • “MAN” organic chocolate almond bar, lot # E0178-1
  • WOMAN” organic dark chocolate berry bar, lot # F0168-1
  • “TRIM” organic chocolate almond bar, lot # K0188-1

‘FOCUS’ organic chocolate peanut bar, lot # FA01881, tested positive for almond allergen not declared on the product label.

While most of these products are still in-house with eBars, LLC, some of the bars have been distributed to stores in Tennessee through the firm’s sales representatives. Consumers who have purchased these products may return them to eBars, LLC or the retail outlet where the bars were purchased.

TDA has notified the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of these findings, which will determine if further action will be taken. No illnesses have been reported at this time.

eBars, LLC is working with TDA and FDA officials to correct this matter and to protect against future product labeling issues. Customers who have any questions or comments may contact eBars, LLC at 615-525-7445.

TDA sets high standards for food safety in Tennessee, and enforces those standards through regular, thorough facility inspections and product testing.
