Jefferson County Commissioner and PDS founder Robert Tucker declared his candidacy for Mayor.

“I am pleased and honored to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Jefferson County During my 20 plus years as a business owner and nearly eight years of experience on commission in this county, I have gained an understanding of the complexities of city, county, and state government.”

“The primary role for the mayor should be to provide leadership and to build a team environment among all the groups within county government, while also being an advocate for the taxpayers. There are many financial issues that will come before us in the years to come. We need a mayor with extensive experience as well as an understanding of what is required to help businesses create better jobs in our county.

“We will need to address budgetary issues and allocating resources where needed, all without sacrificing the safety our citizens, the education of our children, or the quality of the roads we drive on every day. The issues before us continue to be balancing fiscal responsibility with common sense and sound judgment.”

I am the only Republican candidate for Mayor with experience as Chairman of our commission, experience as owner of a thriving business in Jefferson County, and I am the only Republican candidate with a proven track record of not allowing a single property tax increase during all five years that I served on the Budget Committee.”

“During my time on commission, we have been able to save the taxpayers $12 million on the school building fund, increase Roads Department’s budget to triple the number of miles paved per year, authorized the creation of Parrots Chapel fire department, put tax relief program in place for veterans and for seniors and worked for cost-of-living adjustments for county employees. Clearly, we can get a lot done when we share a sense of teamwork to tackle issues. That’s what I plan to bring every day.”

“I look forward to a positive campaign, meeting citizens, tackling challenges and finding solutions.”
