PUBLIC NOTICE OF MEETING AND INTENT TO FILL VACANCY

Due to the resignation of Jefferson County Constable Bobby Roy Jutice, 8th Ditrict, effective February 2018, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners, meeting in Regular Session, Monday, March 19, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Courtroom of the Jefferson County Courthouse, 202 W. Main Street, Dandridge, Tennessee, has placed the filling of this vacancy on the Agenda.

To qualify for election or appointment to the office of constable, a person shall:

1. Be at leat twenty-one (21) year of age;
2. Be a qualified voter of the district which they represent;
3. Possess at least a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate;
4. Not have been convicted in any federal or state court of a felony; and
5. Not have been seperated or discharged from the armed forces of the United States with other than an honorable discharge.

Any individual interested in being considered for election or appointment to the office of constable is required to file an “Affidavit for Election to the Office of Constable” with the County Clerk prior to the meeting.

Before County Commission votes or considers any motion regarding the office to be filled, the Commission Chairman shall allow registered voters of the county an opportunity to submit names to the County Commission for consideration. Names may be submitted in writing to the Commission Chairman prior to the metting or may be submitted in person at the meeting. In order for a name to be considererd, a member of the County Commission must subsequently nominate the person. Members of the County Commission may also nominate a candidate or candidates to fill the office or vacancy without the name or names being submitted by a voter. If the person nominated is not present at the meeting, the person making the nomination shall submit a signed statement from the nominee that he/she is willing to serve in the office if appointed.
