The Great Debate

editorial-logo3This week the Jefferson County Post will host a public debate for candidates in the May Primary Election. The debate will offer voters the opportunity to see the various candidates answer questions that have been submitted from the public. Judge Ben Strand (retired) will be the moderator for the debate and will be keeping things between the narrow lines. He is accustomed to the courtroom, and I expect that he will do a wonderful job.

While several questions have already been submitted, if you have a question for a candidate running for office, there is still time to submit them to the Jefferson County Post via email to editor@jeffersoncountypost.com The deadline for question submission is Tuesday at 8pm. A committee will vet the questions and they will be folded and placed in a jar. Judge Strand will draw out questions during the debate and candidates will be given a specified time to answer the question. There will be an official time keeper to assist Judge Strand.

The debate will be held at the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 6:30pm. Historically, the space fills up fast, so it might be a good idea to come a little early to be assured a seat. The Jefferson County Post looks forward to hosting the event and offering constituents important information so they can make their decision on who to support in the May Primary.

Hopefully, we will see you Thursday as local politics takes the stage at the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse. Remember that voting is a right and a privilege, and informed voting is essential to the future of our community. See you there!
