Maury Announces Top 10 for 2017-2018 School Year

Meici Payne Maury Top 10 18Meici Payne is the daughter of Cecil and Theilia Payne.  Meici has been a part of Maury’s scholar’s bowl and golf teams; she is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, the writer’s club, and a manager for the school play.  She is also in the First Lego League.  History is her favorite subject because she has always surrounded herself with rich cultural studies and finds Ancient Greece intriguing.  In the future, Meici plans to consider a career in conservation or civil architecture.

Maggie Johnson Maury top 10 18Maggie Johnson is the daughter of Michael and Michelle Johnson.  Maggie enjoys all of her classes because she appreciates the idea that each subject satisfies a different aspect of her personality and contributes to her overall enjoyment of school.  She is a member of the Leo Club, the National Junior Honor Society, the writer’s club, choir, band and 4-H.  She also serves on the leadership committee for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is part of the drama production of “Into the Woods.”  In the future Maggie plans to pursue a career in the medical field and has already looked into schools that could offer her multiple paths into becoming a veterinarian, a nurse practitioner, a surgeon, or a medical missionary.

Caitlin Hill Maury top 10 18Caitlin Hill, the daughter of Jason and Holly Hill, is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the writer’s club, and the Maury singers.  Her favorite class is science because curiosity is part of her personality, and she finds this class rewarding since she is able to logically explain questions in interesting ways.  Caitlin plans to pursue a career in the medical field, in pharmacy, or in photography.

Eli Shirley Maury top 10 18Eli Shirley, the son of Thomas and Pamela Shirley, plans to pursue a career in computer programming upon completion of his high school education.  He is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the track team at Maury.  His favorite class is math because he has always found this class rewarding and thinks that it will help him with his future profession.

Sophie Swann Maury top 10 18Sophie Swann is the daughter of James David Swann II and Tricia Swann.  Science is her favorite class partially because both of her parents are science teachers; however, Sophie’s passion is specifically for biology because she finds the processes of nature to be both intriguing and to make absolute sense to her.  She is the president of the student council, secretary of the Leo Club, and captain of the 8th-grade scholar’s bowl team.  She also is a member of the writer’s club, the National Junior Honor Society, and the band.  In addition, Sophie is on the Knoxville Football Club which is a Division 1 travel soccer league.  In the future, Sophie plans to become the CEO of a company that has some association to biology or engineering; if this does not work out, she hopes to have a position of power, a biologist or engineer, in one of these companies.

Gracen Worley Maury top 10 18Gracen Worley is the daughter of Clyde and Kim Worley.  In addition to being on the leadership for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Gracen is a member of Maury’s track team, the National Junior Honor Society, and Maury singers; she also plays soccer and is a part of the drama production of “Into the Woods.”  Her favorite class is math because she finds it similar to a puzzle that can be interpreted and answered using logic.  After the completion of her high school career, Gracen plans to pursue a degree in the medical field.

Cole Perry Maury top 10 18Cole Perry, the son of Christopher and Michelle Perry, plans to pursue a career in physics with the ultimate goal of working with a roller coaster manufacturer in designing amusement park rides.  His favorite class is science because he is intrigued by physics and the way the world works and the new possibilities that exist.  While at Maury, Cole was a member of the First Lego League, the Robotics/STEM Club, the student council, National Junior Honor Society, the choir, and 4-H; he also was a part of the production of the drama “Into the Woods” and served as a member of the Clovers Bowl.

Hailey Whittaker Maury top 10 18Hailey Whitaker, the daughter of Robert and Shandra Whitaker, serves on Maury’s yearbook staff and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. She plans to pursue a career it the field of art upon completion of her high school education. Math is her favorite subject because she enjoys the idea that one is never finished learning in math because what one is taught is always changing; she finds the numerous methods and formulas intriguing because upon mastery of one part, she is introduced to another view or method that completely changes her perception.

Zachary Bais Maury top 10 18Zachary Blais is the son of Marc and Lois Blais. While at Maury, Zachary played for the basketball and soccer teams. He is also a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the band. Zachary plans to pursue a career in engineering upon completing his high school education. He finds math especially interesting and rewarding because it has been his best and most fulfilling class.

Elizabeth Moody Maury top 10 18Elizabeth Moody is the daughter of Paul and Judith Moody.  She plans to pursue a career in architecture after she completes her high school education.  While at Maury, she was a member of the basketball team, the volleyball team, and the golf team.  She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and is participating in the drama “Into the Woods.”  Her favorite class is English language arts because she very much enjoys reading, writing, and public speaking.
