Morristown Police Officer Involved Shooting

Morristown Police officers observed a man wanted on several outstanding warrants sitting in a vehicle on Hayter Drive in south Morristown at approximately 9:30 am this morning. When the officers attempted to take the man into custody, he used his Mercury Grand Marquis to ram officers’ vehicles in an attempt to escape. Officers were in the vehicle at the time and additional officers were on foot attempting to assist with the arrest.

During the escape attempt, an officer fired his .357 handgun striking the suspect in the leg and lower abdomen.

A tactical medic immediately began attending the suspect’s wounds until an ambulance arrived on the scene. The suspect was transported to UT Medical Center.

As per the department’s standard protocol, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations will conduct an independent inquiry in to the incident.
