BLANCHE KING WHITSON

Blanche King Whitson of Dandridge, TN, formerly of Partridge, KY, was born on June 26,1923 to N.B and Mattie King Jenkins. She joined her heavenly family on May 27,2018 and was greeted with open arms by her husband John Dudley Whitson; daughter, Bobbie (Mooch) Day; son-in-law, Norville (Droop) Day; grandson, Richard Day; three brothers: Junior, Huey and Robert King; four sisters: Marie Smith, Nadine McWilliams, Lillian Boggs, and Jackie Henley and several nieces and nephews.

Blanche leaves behind a family who will miss her terribly and who realize how blessed they are to have had her in their lives for so long. Daughter, Saundra Whitson, Charlotte NC; son, Dr Marty and wife Cathy Whitson, Dandridge, TN; grandsons, Jason Martin Whitson and John Derreck Whitson; granddaughters: Melissa Jo Fawbush, Tara Whitson Blank, Lea Whitson, and Tessa Whitson Mason; grandsons-in-law, David Blank and Brandon Mason; and the absolute loves of her life, her great granddaughters: Sarah and Emily Whitson; Amelia, Emery and Addison Blank; and Harlyn Mason. As well as a host of nieces and nephews and dear neighbors Kaye French and Margaret Teague. Her passing also leaves an empty space in the hearts of her extended and “adopted” family: Laquada Florek; Pam, Rob, Blake and Amanda Garrison; and Jeff Knox and his family, who shared numerous meals and holidays at Blanche’s house.

The family would like to thank Smokey Mountain Hospice and Sheryl Ladner for the excellent care they provided. All of the staff were professional, dedicated and loving. The service they provided was excellent.

Blanche loved to garden, cook and share that food and hospitality with others. The family asks that in lieu of flowers you spend a special meal with your family, or plant a flower or vegetable, or provide a service for a friend or neighbor and when doing so remember Blanche with a smile.
At her request, a graveside service will be held at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Big Stone Gap, VA. On Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 1:00pm, where, after twenty-four years, she will again rest beside her husband. Her nephew, Rev. Rod Raleigh will officiate, and Amazing Grace will be sung by her great niece Misty King Baker. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 12:00 to 1:00PM prior to the service.
