Remote Area Medical to Provide Free Medical Care in Jefferson County, TN

Remote Area Medical- RAM™ — a major non-profit provider of mobile medical clinics delivering free, high-quality, dental, vision and medical care to underserved and uninsured individuals—is coming to Jefferson County, TN. Services available at the RAM clinic include dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental x-rays, eye exams, eyeglass prescriptions, eyeglasses made on-site, women’s health exams, and general medical exams. This RAM clinic is made possible thanks to funding from the Jefferson Healthcare Foundation Fund of East Tennessee Foundation. All RAM services are FREE and no ID is required.

Patient parking for the Jefferson County RAM clinic will be located at Strawberry Plains Presbyterian Church, 3168 W Old Andrew Johnson Highway, Strawberry Plains, TN 37871. The clinic parking lot will open no later than 12 a.m. midnight on Saturday, August 25. Ticket distribution begins at 3 a.m., and patients will be seen in chronological order according to their ticket number when clinic doors open at 6 a.m. This process will repeat on Sunday, August 26.

According to U.S. census data, the poverty rate in Jefferson County is 15.7%, exceeding the national average of 12.7%. Additionally, nearly one out of every nine people lacks health insurance coverage. Because of these factors, RAM expects to treat approximately 500 people from Jefferson County and surrounding communities during the two-day clinic.

“RAM has traveled to Jefferson County, Tennessee many times over the years and is glad to be back providing free care to people in need,” said Chris Hall, chief operating office of Remote Area Medical. “We appreciate the support of the East Tennessee Foundation for making this clinic possible,” he added.
