LOUISE JEANNIE DUPELEY DICKENSON

LOUISE JEANNIE DUPELEY DICKENSON, PhD. age 95, of Morristown, TN and formerly of Jefferson City, TN passed away August 28, 2018. Dr. Dickenson was born April 24, 1923 in Algiers, Algeria which was part of the territorial France. She came to the United States in 1947 as a war bride. In 1959 she graduated from Carson Newman College with a B.A. in French and Mathematics and was offered and accepted a position as a French professor. She received her M.A. from the University of Tennessee and a PhD. from Vanderbilt University. She retired from Carson Newman after 30 years as Professor Emerita. She received many honors, being listed in “Who’s Who” and recognized for her teaching legacy by the One-Hundredth General Assembly of the State of Tennessee. Dr. Dickenson was affiliated with the South Atlantic Modern Language Associates, the American Association of University Women, the Carson Newman Pansophic Club, the Pi Delta Phi French Honor Society, the Phi Alpha Theta History Literary Club of Jefferson City, The Alliance Francaise of Knoxville, and the Knox County Historical Society. Dr. Dickenson was an active community volunteer, serving on the Board of the Jefferson City Public Library, the Community College Council, and as a docent at the APTA Glenmore Mansion, services for which she received the Lane Bryant Award. She was an active member of the Methodist Church. Dr. Dickenson was preceded in death by her parents, Marcel and Jeanne Dupeley and granddaughter, Nicole Renee Dickenson. She is mourned by her three sons and their families, Craig and Sandy Dickenson, Brent and Veronica Dickenson, and Carroll and Angela Dickenson; seven grandchildren, Olivia Morgan, Amanda Gilliam, Darla, Cory, Dax, Stephen, and Alan Dickenson; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Tylor Carter, Justice, Kaiden, Kya, Angel, Ella, Eric, Caleb, Owen, and Emory Dickenson, and Aiden and Isabella Gilliam; great-great-granddaughter Amelia Story. The family would life to say a special thank you to the staff of Regency Retirement Village and the special personal care sitters with Home Instead for their care of Louise Dickenson over the last several years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Louise Dickenson Scholarship at Carson Newman College or to the First United Methodist Church of Morristown. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Farrar Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Sonny Strange and Rev. Andy Ferguson officiating. Graveside interment service will follow at Westview Cemetery.
