Jefferson County is fortune enough to have many festivals and events on its annual calendar but none are more highly anticipated than the annual Spirit of the Nations Pow wow. As summer races to a close, the County fills with bright colors, dancing, music and food that is a part of the Pow wow. The Patriot Academy plays host to the event and event organizers are local educators Mark and Sherry Finchum. The Finchums have long been a driving force in bringing the culture and heritage of the Cherokee people to the forefront. With the assistance and support of a varied and knowledgeable Board of Directors, as well as the local community, the Spirit of the Nations Pow wow has become a successful avenue to secure that the ways of the Native American people will not get lost in a transition from one generation to the next.

As is usual, the community came out to enjoy the day, as well as visitors here specifically for the event. Young and old danced with vigor and played drums with enthusiasm. Others dined on traditional fare and browsed the wares. The Spirit of the Nations Pow wow is brought to the community by Indian Creek Productions. The production company has many events throughout the year and can be followed at www.indiancreekproductions.com
