GENE J. QUARLES

Gene J. Quarles, age 93, passed away on October 27, 2018, in Jefferson City, TN. He was born on October 22, 1925, in Jefferson City, TN. Mr. Quarles proudly served his country during World War II as a midshipman in the Pacific Campaign of the United States Navy. He held the distinction of teaching for fifty-six years and during that time he was admired and revered by hundreds of students. Known to many as “Coach,” he held various coaching positions throughout his career, and his love of the game never ended. His devotion to teaching was integral to the success of many. He was a faithful member and former deacon of First Baptist Church in Morristown, TN. Preceded in death by parents, Brown and Nancy Line Quarles; nephew, Harold Wayne Quarles; twin brother, Dene J. Quarles (Jenny); sister, Joyce Morgan (Raymond);brothers, Royce Quarles and Laverne Quarles (Polly). Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carolyn O’Dell Quarles; daughters, Patti Clement (Wayne), Carol Monroe (Steve); grandchildren, Nan Black (David), Katie Cantrell (Jacob), Parker Clement (Ashley), Caroline Feltman (Spencer), and Maggie Clement; great grandchildren, John Rupert Black, James Fox Black, and Monroe Elizabeth Feltman; brother Fred Quarles (Bobbie); sister-in-law, Nancy Quarles, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family celebrated his distinguished life and legacy with a private service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church in Morristown, TN.
