Happy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day from the Jefferson County Post! In honor Martin Luther King Day and to celebrate the life works of Dr. King, a parade and ceremony were held at the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse in Dandridge. A standing tradition, the program is open to all that follow and appreciate the efforts of Dr. King and his family.

King was born on January 15 and his birth is celebrated on the third Monday in January as a part of the Federal Holidays Act. He is, possibly, the most recognized face and voice of the civil rights movement. King was assassinated in April of 1968 and his death was felt world wide. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and his library, located in Atlanta, Georgia is considered the primary source of information on King’s life and activism, as well as information on the civil rights movement.
