S.T.E.M. is a wonderful program consisting of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics that is a funded by a grant for Jefferson County Schools. This is the first year that White Pine was able to offer this amazing program and they are hoping that they will be able to renew the federal grant which makes this program possible.

The program meets four days a week before class and after class. They meet with teacher’s assistance in the morning to check that the homework was brought back and that they are ready to go for the morning. The group then meets in the afternoon for enrichment in an effort to stimulate their interest and participation in the study areas of Science, technology, engineering and math.

Special guests are an important part of the program, which thrives with community participation. Mitch Cain, the Director of Member Service with Application Electric Cooperative, was the guest speaker last week, as students studied the various areas of electricity. He spoke with each age group about their special area of interest in electricity, spending time with the youngest grades last week, and will be back with the Cyclones next week to finish out his tour with the older students.
