Happy April Fools Day from the Jefferson County Post!

Today is the day that jesters look forward to with gleeful anticipation. In a year of “have to” and “do not”, where political correctness reigns supreme, April Fool’s Day or All Fools Day offers the rare opportunity for those looking for a laugh to pull one over on the unsuspecting. Where did April Fool’s Day originate? The answer to that question is as varied as the pranks and tricks that are pulled on the first day of April.

Some believe it to be as old as Ancient Rome and others believe it to be tied to the creation of the Gregorian Calendar when the start of the new year was moved from the last of March/ first of April to January 1st. Apparently, those that missed the date change were teased and taunted for their “foolish” mistake. Whatever the origin, modern times have upped the ante on April Fool’s Day, with news media and the corporate jungle getting in on the joke. From fake news stories to eyebrow raising press releases, it appears that nothing is quite as it appears on April Fool’s Day.

So, from The Jefferson County Post to you and yours, Happy April Fool’s Day! Celebrate with a smile and don’t let the joke be on you.
