Modern Woodmen of America Holds County Speech Contest

The 2019 Modern Woodmen Jefferson County Speech Contest was held on Wednesday April 3rd at the Jefferson County Rescue Squad building. The topic for the contest was “Challenges Youth Face Today”.

Pictured left to right are the winners: 3rd place Delaney Jackson, Maury, $50; 2nd place Emerson Ellison, Piedmont, $100; 1st place Celeste Collins, Mt Horeb $150. Presenting the checks is Richard Hall, Modern Woodmen representative. 

There were 21 participants from these seven schools: Piedmont, Maury, Mt Horeb, New Market, White Pine, Dandridge and Jefferson Elementary. The participants also received a pizza party for their participation provided by Modern Woodmen.  

The judges were Dr. Chip Hall, Associate Professor of Communications and Director of Forensics at Carson Newman University; Ellie Trent, CNU student and Rob Martin.
