Getting Through The Ice

Now that Winter has finally come, complete with snow and ice, my daughter is having some trouble making it to school on time because she is having to de ice her windshield in the morning. I saw that next month is going to be even colder than this month and was wondering if you have any sure fire ways to make the de icing process easier?

The assumption is that your daughter does not have access to a covered area to park her car. Suggestions from experts are broad and have not been field tested by this writer. Covering the windshield with cardboard or a car cover is an easy fix for the problem. Ice scrapers are cheap and accessible, but it is certainly a cold job early in the morning. Starting the car a few minutes early will allow for time to soften the ice, if she uses the defroster. A scraper will make fast work of loosened ice. There are some really nice ones that include an attached insulated glove to protect the hand from the cold, as well as heated scrapers. One of the more interesting suggestions is to set a warm shoe on the windshield. Apparently, it reacts with the ice and starts the melting process. Remember that these suggestions are not “road tested” by this writer and may result in nothing more than a shoe on the windshield. If you try it, let us know how it works.
