UT Veterinary College offers conference for horse owners

The Feb. 23 conference is dedicated to the health and management of the horse

This foal received treatment at the UT Veterinary Medical Center’s new equine hospital.

The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine will host “Management Strategies in Equine Health Care” Saturday, February 23, 2013. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the conference lasts until 4:40 p.m. It will be held in room A118 at the college, which is located on the UT agricultural campus. Tours of the new equine hospital will be available immediately following the conference.

Since a good horse owner is an educated horse owner, the conference is dedicated to the health and management of the horse. Preventive healthcare in horses helps keep your equine companion healthy and protects your investment. The conference is designed for those who have owned horses for years and for those who are new to the horse world. Speakers will include board-certified faculty of the UT Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences and UT Extension. Topics include parasite control, equine first aid, viral diseases, equine arthritis, pre-purchase examinations, nutrition and metabolic diseases.

The fee for the conference is $35 for the first family member and $15 for each additional family member. This fee covers lunch, refreshments, and materials.
