SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM THEME: A UNIVERSE OF STORIES

Readers of all ages will explore all things space this summer as Jefferson City Public Library presents “A Universe of Stories” during their summer library program. Activities may include games, space-related crafts, art projects, science and engineering experiments, and more.

The 2019 Summer Learning Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings, story times, exciting challenges, and more.

CHILDREN and TWEEN PROGRAMMING – No children or tween programming July 2-6 for the holiday.

Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, 31 at 10:30 am – Storytime Go! Geared toward 3-5 year olds, this program is designed to promote children’s early literacy skills as well as inform care-givers about their crucial role at this stage of their child’s literacy development. Each Storytime is followed by an art activity, so be prepared to get messy!

Thursdays, July 11, 18, 25 at 10:30 am – Little Listeners – This is an early literacy-based program geared toward babies and toddlers under 36 months. It’s a great way for caregivers to share songs, books, and fun with their children.

Thursday, July 11 at 4:30 pm – Pokémon Club – Join us as we play (and learn to play) the Pokémon Trading Card Game. BYOD (Bring Your Own Deck) or borrow the Librarian’s. This program is for children 8-12.

Thursday, July 18 at 4:30 pm – Tween Manga Club – Tween manga fans unite! Make new friends, talk about manga, watch anime, and try out Japanese snacks! This program is for tweens 10-13. (2nd Thursdays)

Thursday, July 25 at 4:30 pm – LEGO Builders Club – Children will have the opportunity to develop basic STEM skills while challenging themselves with their favorite building material. This program is geared for children 5-12 (& their adults, too!)

Summer Learning Program Activities – Main Events for Kids

Tuesday, July 9 at 2 pm – Space Explorers – You get to be the astronaut and explore space with experiments, crafts, and games, learn about what its like to travel and explore other planets.

Tuesday, July 16 at 2 pm – Magic Circle Productions –Magic! Need we say more? Come to the library and be wowed by magic tricks extraordinaire!

Tuesday, July 23 at 2 pm – Secret Event – Mums the word on this one. It’s a super secret event that our special library volunteers are putting together for us!

Tuesday, July 30 at 2 pm – Creatures of the Galaxy – Animal Tales is back with awesome, exotic creatures from around the planet!

TEEN PROGRAMMING –

Friday, July 19 at 4:00 pm – Empowered Youth – Join other teens passionate about developing our personal well-being and the well-being of the world around us. We’ll support each other in managing our health, living naturally, and caring for the earth. This program is for teens 14-18. (3rd Fridays)

ADULT PROGRAMMING –

Tuesday, July 2 at 5:30 pmBook Social for Adults – Make new friends over books! Enjoy tasty refreshments and enthusiastic book discussion about your latest reads. (1st Tuesdays)

Saturday, July 6 at 11:00 amPlanner Club – Calling all Planner Geeks! Hang out with other planner lovers while getting to plan! Bring your planner and supplies or partake of the library’ stickers, washi tape, and pens. (1st Saturdays)

Wednesday, July 17 at 6 pm- Mossy Creek Writers – Every third Wednesday, blog writers, book writers and aspiring writers, come join a new group to encourage, challenge and strengthen one another in the passion of writing.

Saturday, July 20 at 10:00 am – Art Journaling – For teens and adults. Use scissors, paper, paint, stamps… well, just about everything we can get our hands on to create journal pages. It’s not art, it’s fun.

WEEKLY ADULT PROGRAMMING –

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12 pm – Senior Social – Enjoy lunch, meet new people and have a great time! Must be 60+ or a spouse of someone 60+ and complete a registration packet. Call 423-318-6936 for more information or sign up at the library desk.

Thursdays, 2-6:30 pm – Dungeons & Dragons – Get together and participate in the game of battle and role-play known as Dungeons & Dragons! Ages 18-25, new or old players welcome, all that is required is an imagination bigger than a frost giant! Space is limited. Registration is required. Sign up at the library desk or call 865-475-9094.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING

Tuesdays thru Thursdays at 9:30 am – TCAT Adult Education Classes – Call 865-286-6374 to register or for more information. Orientation is required before starting classes. Evening classes available.
