Attempted Breakout at Mountain View Sunday Night

On Sunday evening, July 21 at approximately 9:00 p.m. , an attempted break out was made at the Mountain View Youth Detention center. According to Dandridge Police Chief, Carson Williams, nine inmates broke windows and made their way on to two roofs at the facility. Dandridge Police, and other surrounding law enforcement agencies including Tennessee Highway Patrol, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Jefferson City Police, and White Pine police responded to the incident. Chief Williams stated that it took about 20 minutes to regain control of the facility. The incident was cleared and returned to facility management at approximately 10:45 p.m. One guard received minor injuries, and one inmate had minor lacerations. This incident comes on the heels of a state decision to make the facility a therapeutic facility, and turn management over to a private company.
