C.A.R.E., Spay and Neuter Project Team Up for Tropical Fundraiser

Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts were the uniform of the day on Friday, July 26th at The Point Resort Marina in Dandridge. Well over 100 people gathered there for the first annual “Luau by the Lake” fundraiser hosted jointly by C.A.R.E. and The Spay Neuter Project. Swagerty’s donated a hog that was prepared by Grillbilly Smoke Food Truck & Catering. Trout were donated by English Mountain Trout Farm & Grill. Bush’ s provided baked beans. Sam’s Club, Walmart, and Food City Dandridge provided other food items. Volunteers served plenty of delicious home made side dishes and deserts to the appreciative crowd. A silent auction had attendees bidding on a wide variety of items including autographed memorabilia, tickets to local attractions, and trips to exotic locations. Dog Haven Lodge sent Aubrie Goodnoe to paint faces for both children and adults.

All proceeds will be used to provide Spay and Neuter procedures for dogs and cats in Jefferson County. In addition to the funds raised at the event, each of the two host organizations will receive a matching grant in the amount of $1000.

C.A.R.E. operates the county open surrender shelter and provides low cost spay/neuter procedures. The shelter took in 3108 companion animals this past year.

The Spay Neuter Project is run by five unpaid volunteers and has facilitated 828 surgeries in less than a year.

C.A.R.E. and The Spay Neuter Project would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all of the people who came out to make this inaugural event a success. Additional thanks go to the following for their generous donations:
