Jefferson County Mayor Mark Potts has proclaimed September 17-23 as “Constitution Week” in Jefferson County. September 17 marks the 232nd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. It is the 64th anniversary of the first resolution by the U.S. Congress to observe Constitution Week. This celebration of the American form of government rests on the fact that the Constitution continues to assure each citizen of the freedoms Americans cherish. Work places, civic groups, clubs, schools, churches, and families are invited to fly their flags, reflect on the American way of life as outlined in the Constitution, read/recite the preamble, and offer a prayer of thanks for this great document that has guided us in our pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness for 232 years. City and county government, churches, schools, and individuals are encouraged to participate in “Bells Across America” by ringing their bells on Tuesday, September 17, in observance of the signing of the Constitution and as a chorus of national celebration from “sea to shining sea.”
