Census Bureau Conducting Address Verifications

The Census Bureau has hired people to conduct address verifications now in preparation for the actual census starting April 1, 2020.

Employees will knock on doors and ask a few simple questions to verify the address and any additional living quarters on the property for inclusion in the census. Employees will have badges indicating their affiliation with the Census Bureau. They will introduce themselves as a Census Bureau employee, show their official government ID badge, and explain the purpose of the visit. People may also ask them for a picture ID from another source to confirm their identity. The census is used to allocate money to our county. For every person missed, Jefferson County loses over $1,000 per year for the next 10 years toward things like school meal plans and roads. We need to ensure all our residents are counted.

If you would like to work for the census, they are hiring through www.2020census.gov/jobs. Pay is $13.50 an hour and .58 per mile.
