Local Lawmakers Announce Technology Grants for Public Libraries in Jefferson County

State Senator Frank Niceley (R-Strawberry Plains) and Representatives Jeremy Faison (R-Cosby) and Andrew Farmer (R-Sevierville) announced today that Jefferson County is receiving $7,738 in Technology Grants from the Tennessee State Library and Archives.  The lawmakers made the announcement after being notified by Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett.

“Access to technology is something many of us take for granted,” Secretary of State Tre Hargett said.  “Our public libraries across the state play a pivotal role in connecting Tennesseans.  I’m proud of the role the Tennessee Library and Archives plays in increasing access to technology and education across the entire state.”

The Friend of Jefferson City Library will receive a grant for $6,856 to purchase desktops, laptops and software; and the White Pine Public Library will receive a grant for $882 to purchase desktops.

“Our libraries have always been a source for exploration of learning and can provide in-depth knowledge on an array of topics free of charge,” said Niceley. “These technology grants will help our libraries maintain that role by providing updated technology that can facilitate further learning and add value to our libraries.”

“Nothing can replace the feeling that comes when you shut a book for the last time after you finish reading it” said State Rep Jeremy Faison. “This important funding will update local libraries to ensure citizens have the resources they need, like high-speed internet connection, so they can continue their studies, browse the web, or look for employment or just grab a book and enjoy.”

“Congratulations to Jefferson County libraries for securing technology grants from the Tennessee State and Library Archives,” said Representative Farmer. “Local libraries are very helpful in furthering education for students and adults, and this grant will ensure they continue to provide important resources for our citizens.”

Technology grants are available for public libraries to replace or purchase technology, including computers, software, networking hardware or peripherals.  The State Library and Archives is awarding more than $350,000 in technology grants across the state.
