CARSON-NEWMAN SWEEPS SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE ASTROTURF MEN’S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS

Carson-Newman’s Devon Moore was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate Christian Shouse was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the fourth week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.

Moore, a junior from Baxley, Ga., recorded the fastest 60-meter dash time in NCAA Division II when he took first place at the Finn Pincus Invitational last week. He posted a time of 6.69 seconds, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II National Championship. In addition to turning in the fastest time in Division II, Moore also set the facility record at the Cregger Center in Salem, Va. He capped off an impressive meet by winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.85, an NCAA Division II provisional time.

Shouse, a freshman from Jacksboro, Tenn., earned 5,099 points in the heptathlon at the Liberty Kick-off, earning an NCAA Division II provisional mark. Competing against a mostly Division I field, Shouse won the high jump (2.06 meters), long jump (7.06 meters) and 60-meter dash (7.08 seconds). Overall, Shouse finished second in the heptathlon at the event and he now holds the eighth highest point total in NCAA Division II.
