Academics and Nutrition in Jefferson County Schools, Closure through April 3, 2020 – Dr. Shane Johnston, Director

Jefferson County Schools will be closed through Friday, April 3, 2020 due to the national emergency created by the coronavirus (Covid-19).

ACADEMICS

During this time the Jefferson County School System will be providing a list of academic resources available to parents and students. The purpose of these resource links is to keep the focus on learning. Specifically, the resource links are provided for parents and students to practice grade-level skills during this time of school closure. These sites are offered simply as resources for instructional practice only. No grades will be assigned from any of this work in grades K-8. High School students earning credit may have assignments that will count toward a numeric grade.

Currently, central office supervisors are working with the technology department and curriculum leaders in preparation for next steps associated with providing on-going instruction to students. There is a strong commitment to have a continuity of instruction for students. District leadership teams will continue working with building level administrators and teachers to develop plans for students in the event schools must remain closed beyond April 3, 2020.

The initial resource list will be posted on the Jefferson County Schools webpage and other social media outlets no later than Monday, March 23, 2020. Additionally, the list will also be provided with the meals during the food distribution on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 (see next section).

I am confident that our great educators and staff members will continue to seek out ways to help our students, and families, during this difficult time. We encourage all families to participate in this meal distribution. Meals are available to all children 18 years old and under and it is advantageous for our school district to have a high participation rate.”
