Carson-Newman University Classes and Residence Update

March 17, 2020 – Classes

  • Carson-Newman will suspend all face to face instruction for the remainder of the semester. 
  • All courses will move to a distance education delivery model. Lecture courses as well as labs, studios, applied lessons, etc.) will move online where applicable or instructors will find alternative solutions. No face to face instruction for any course. This policy begins Wednesday March 18th until the conclusion of the academic spring semester April 30th
  • Carson-Newman University is committed to the successful completion of this academic term for all students. 
  • Decision regarding spring commencement is forthcoming.

Residence Life and Cafeteria

  • Carson-Newman campus remains open. 
  • Residence halls remain open. Any student who feels they need to go home may go home. We are committed to assisting all students in meeting their academic requirements for this semester.  
  • Dining at Stokely Memorial Cafeteria, Maples, Chik-fil-a, and the PODS remain open. Maples (8a-2p), Chik-fil-a (11a-3p) and the PODS (9a-2p) have new limited hours. Stokely Memorial Cafeteria will be open from 8 am-7 pm. Students who do not have an unlimited meal plans can seek assistance for meals not covered in their plan. Do not go hungry.   • Students are strongly encouraged to be mindful of their gatherings in communal living spaces and other campus spaces. We ask that you carefully consider and take personal responsibility in the exercise of your choice if you socialize with others. As always, follow good hygiene practices. Avoid sharing food and drink. Wash your hands regularly. Avoid touching your face and commonly touched public areas (doorknobs, handrails, etc.) Make use of a tissue or sleeve to cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing. 

University Offices

  • Offices and operations will continue as regularly scheduled. Deans, directors, department heads, and others in supervisory roles should instruct staff to practice social distancing. Faculty and staff need to coordinate with their immediate supervisor if working from home is an option.
