First Day Of School For Jefferson County Updated Information From DOE

Announcement from Jefferson County Schools, Sunday, July 12, 2020 – Updated information concerning reopening of school buildings for 2020-2021. Be reminded that plans are being updated frequently and are subject to change prior to the start of school.

Following today’s call, new written information will be posted on the district’s webpage and social media sites tomorrow afternoon. Please listen to today’s announcements and as always feel free to reach out with questions at the email address – reopening@jcboe.net.

First, families should begin to plan for the first student day of school to be held Friday, August 7, 2020. This is scheduled to be a FULL day for students. The change will allow us additional time to provide training for teachers specifically around distance learning and online formats. This will be finalized prior to the last full week of July.

Secondly, tomorrow afternoon we will post updated written guidance concerning the reopening of schools. This new information specifically will provide a great deal of information about distance learning requirements and expectations of students and student families.

Thirdly, all families are asked to complete the online registration of students found on the Jefferson County web page. This is an expectation for all students including returning and new students to Jefferson County Schools. Once at the Jefferson County Schools web page look in the middle of the page for a box entitled “Online Student Registration”. Click on this box and follow the directions. This is where families may select the virtual school option for 2020-2021. The registration link will open tomorrow, Monday, July 6, 2020 and will remain open through Sunday, July 19, 2020.

We will also provide in person registration options at three locations and staff will be present to help families that may have limited access to internet or feel more comfortable in person.

The three dates are July 14 at Rush Strong School from Noon to 7 PM, July 15 at White Pine School from Noon to 7 PM, and July 16 at the main campus of Jefferson County High School from 8 AM – 7 PM.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work together to safely reopen school buildings for upcoming school year. Have a wonderful evening and thanks for your support of Jefferson County Schools.
