Distance Learning Deadline, July 26, 2020 – Jefferson County Schools Guidance on Requirements for Re-Opening

First, Starting Monday, July 27, 2020 masks will be required in school buildings for employees, visitors to campus, and students in grades 6-12. Masks remain strongly encouraged for PreK-5th grade students. Everyone should expect more guidance on this in the coming weeks and this is subject to change based on updated guidance.

Secondly, parents must sign up for distance learning by Sunday, July 26, 2020. We now must start finalizing the number of students that have signed up for Distance Learning and those that have registered to physically attend in a traditional setting. Monday, July 27, 2020 families that have selected distance learning will receive an information page that must be completed and turned in no later than July 30, 2020. The information page will be sent to the email address families provided when they selected distance learning.

Families selecting distance learning will be required to attend a parent meeting beginning the week of August 3. This meeting will be part of training to ensure a successful distance learning experience. More information will be provided soon.

Families are reminded that all students must be registered. This is for returning and new students alike. Families should contact your child’s school or utilize the online Gateway registration portal. Anyone not registered by this coming Monday, July 27, is subject to being removed from the enrolment of Jefferson County Schools.

School staffs are working to verify registrations to accurately place students on classroom rosters and the district is finalizing the number of staff members needed to meet the needs of students in a traditional setting and those that are utilizing distance learning.

Everyone is invited to check the updated written guidance about reopening on the district web page and social media site. It should be posted midday on Thursday, July 23.

Next week’s update will be provided no later than Tuesday, July 28 and it will contain a great deal of information and the most updated protocols.
