Carson-Newman University FAFSA Event Postponed Due to Forecasted Inclement Weather, November 5, 2020

Carson-Newman’s “Drive-In to Your Future FAFSA Event” has been postponed due to forecasted inclement weather.

The event is rescheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5.

High school seniors and their families will have the opportunity to complete the Federal Application for Student Aid in a fun setting, with expert help readily at hand.

Carson-Newman University will host a “Drive-In to Your Future FAFSA Event,” in which students and their parents or guardians can park in a designated lot on campus and complete their FAFSA in their parked vehicle, allowing for social distancing during the pandemic. Carson-Newman’s financial aid experts will be available to answer any questions and assist with the process.

“Filing the FAFSA can be stressful and confusing, especially for first-generation college students and high school students who have never completed the process before,” said Danette Seale, Carson-Newman’s executive director of Financial Aid. “But it’s also one of the most important steps a high school senior can take to prepare for college. The FAFSA is how students apply for a great deal of their potential financial aid, including grants they do not have to pay back, work-study opportunities and loans.

“By participating in our Drive-In to Your Future event, students and their families will have access to experts who can help them avoid the stress and confusion and have their FAFSA filed ahead of upcoming deadlines to learn what financial aid they will qualify for,” said Seale, who is president of the Tennessee Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, which came up with the idea for this statewide event.

Just like at a drive-in movie, a projector screen will display informational guides to further assist with the process. Students do not have to apply to Carson-Newman to attend the FAFSA event. Once registered, C-N will contact participants with additional details about how to prepare for completing their FAFSA during the event.
