Jefferson County Commission Vote

The Jefferson County Commission met for their regular quarterly voting session this week, with a portion of commissioners attending the meeting virtually. While most of the agenda was in the nature of general housekeeping, the commission did vote unanimously to extend the Local Coronavirus Relief which allows extended paid leave for employees through March 31, 2021 for qualifying reasons and paid leave entitlements of Families First Coronavirus Relief Act.

One citizen addressed the commission via Commissioner Rob Blevins regarding opposition to the school building program. The commission also approved the surplus of items from the Juvenile Court and the Finance Office, as well as approval of a resolution regarding a Community Block Grant application.

Selections from the nominating committee for positions on CARE ( Tiffany Dalton, Spencer Hogan) and the Humane Society ( Julie Carter) were approved. Also finding favor with the voting body were several resolutions regarding rezoning ( 1722-25-07 Hwy, Hwy 139-A1-R1, I-1 to C2 and A1 Hwy 11E) . A resolution regarding policy and procedure affirmation for Rebuild and Recover was approved, as was a resolution for Nyrstar application for Nyrstar Mine and Rescue Fire Department.

County and School Budget Amendments were presented by the Budget Committee and all were approved as presented.

Jefferson County Finance Director Potts presented the committee with information regarding the economic position of the county for the Covid -19 Pandemic Year. Potts stated that in his opinion Jefferson County is currently in a good financial position.
