Ms. Peggy Conway’s second grade class got a surprise visit on Wednesday from Appalachian Electric Cooperative General Manager Greg Williams. Mr. Williams made a special trip to Talbott Elementary School to meet student Seth Runyon. Seth, along with his classmates, contributed to the student writing section of the local print paper just before Thanksgiving. The assigned topic centered around things to be thankful for and Seth put electricity at the top of his thankful list, even besting video games and Thanksgiving food. Williams presented Seth with a framed letter thanking him for his recognition of the good things that electricity provides in people’s daily lives, as well as a gift card. Seth’s class has a great interest in writing, according to Talbott Principal Dr. Sharp. She said that she has even known them to voluntarily forgo recess in favor of creative writing and credits Ms. Conway with making writing fun and interesting. Seth and his classmates all received yellow hats and free ice cream, compliments of Appalachian Electric Cooperative, to celebrate electricity.
