Betty Sue (Silver) Watkins

Betty Sue (Silver) Watkins, age 89 of Talbott, TN, passed away suddenly at her home on April 4th, 2021. Betty was born on June 7, 1931 in Jefferson County, where she lived her entire life. Betty was an active and faithful member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher most of her adult life. She loved God and served her church with all her heart and had a willingness to serve in various capacities. She was a strong prayer warrior and had a prayer list that she went through every night with over 100 names. Betty was Post Master in Talbott for 30 years of service and retired from the USPS in 1991. Betty was not only married to a farmer, she was a farmer herself. You could always find her checking on cows, mending fences or any other duties that needed done on a daily basis. She believed in her neighbors and community and was instrumental in getting approval for a new School in the Talbott Community and was recently named “Our Wildcat Hero” by Talbott Elementary school. Besides her home, she enjoyed the beach and the mountains. She was “eat up” with her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grand-children and great grand-children. She was truly the glue that holds the family together. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Bud Watkins; her parents, Marvin and Ada Silver; her brothers, Bill, Neal and Wayne Silver. She is survived by her children, Dr. Connie W. Bales, Larry and wife Lois, Chip and wife Annie; grandchildren, Audrey and Britt Bales, Isaac, Reece, Carrie and Roger Watkins; great-grandchildren Liam and Ada Britton and sisters, Drama (Del) Robeson and Clara Cate. Special appreciation to family friend, Wilma Bible and many loved nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8th, 2021 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Talbott. Graveside interment service will follow in the church cemetery. Receiving of friends will be from 1:00 until 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 7th at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Larry, Chip, Isaac, Reece and Roger Watkins and Britt Bales. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice in appreciation for their devoted care to her husband, Bud Watkins during his last days.
