Clara “Jean” Cate

Clara “Jean” Cate, age 73, went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, April 18, 2021. She was a member of Dumplin Baptist Church, where she was very passionate about serving families in the community as the food pantry director. She, along with her husband and daughter, had an active ministry in gospel music, singing with The Cate Family, beginning in the early 1980s. In her last few years, she was a resident of Life Care Center in Jefferson City, where she was loved and blessed with some of the best staff and Regina Hensley, NP, all dedicated to her care. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lena Slagle, her granddaughter Susanna Jean West, and many siblings and in-laws. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Glenn Cate, son Ralph (Melissa) Cate and grandson Zachary Cate, daughter Glenda (Alan) Holden and grandchildren Cole, Dillon, and Rachel West. She is also survived by her sister Laura Payne of Clarksville, TN, and sister-in-law Mildred Lindsey of Dandridge, TN. She had many nieces and nephews, who all loved their Aunt Jean, and a special friend and singing partner, Deloris Cate. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Northview Senior Academy Band Program in honor of her granddaughter, Rachel West.
