VITAL POLICY – Jefferson County Republicans Call Primary Elections for May 3, 2022, County Commission Offices Included

Jefferson County Republican Party has called primary elections for May 3, 2022, for the following offices.

Circuit Court Judge 4th Judicial District, Part I          

Circuit Court Judge 4th Judicial District, Part II

Circuit Court Judge 4th Judicial District, Part III

Circuit Court Judge 4th Judicial District, Part IV

Chancellor 4th Judicial District

District Attorney General 4th Judicial District

Public Defender 4th Judicial District

County Mayor

Trustee

General Sessions Judge 

Sheriff

Circuit Court Clerk

County Clerk

Register of Deeds

Board of County Commissioners, Each of the Districts (1-10)

The Jefferson County Republican Party County Executive Committee (CEC) voted unanimously on Wednesday July 7, 2021, and Monday August 9, 2021, to nominate its candidates for the August 4, 2022, General Election by primary election. The primary call includes offices of the 4th Judicial District, county-wide offices, and Board of County Commissioners. The decision is based on the belief that primary elections are the proper procedure for nominating candidates for the General Election.

Of note, the qualification period for candidates running as Independents has changed as a result of the Republican Primary call. The candidate qualifying period for Republicans and Independents for the above listed offices begins on Monday December 20th, 2021, (first day to pick up petition) and ends on Thursday February 17th, 2022, at Noon (last day to turn in signed qualifying petitions).
