Chambers Takes Finance Director Position

In late October Finance Director Langdon Potts informed the Finance Committee of his plan to retire at the end of this year.

Langdon Potts said “I have enjoyed the past seven years working with the county employees. We made some nice improvements in financial position in Jefferson County. I am proud that I was a part of it.”

Mayor Potts comment, “Langdon Potts has served our county well. Langdon guided county and school finance into the electronic age. The leadership and administration of Langdon Potts will impact the finances of Jefferson County years into the future.”

The Finance Committee met on Monday, November 22, and appointed Jessica Elder as the new Finance Director effective January 1, 2022.

Langdon Potts said, “Jessica has worked in the Jefferson County Finance Department for the past five years.  After her first year, it became apparent that her accounting/finance knowledge and leadership skills made her a valued part of our department.   Jessica has been training as part of our succession plan for the last four years. I am confident she will do an outstanding job.”

 

Mayor Potts said, “I look forward to Jessica Elder serving as Jefferson County Finance Director. She has the skills and knowledge required to efficiently and effectively administer county finances.”

Jessica said,” I am beyond excited to have this opportunity to serve my county as the next Finance Director. I have had great leadership the past 5 years to mentor and shape me for which I am very thankful. Langdon has done an excellent job for our County, and I will continue the momentum.”

Jessica has a B.S. in Finance with a minor in Accounting and has taken steps to earn her Certified County Financial Officer and Certified Public Administrator this year.  She is currently working on her Certified Government Financial Manager program.  She is a graduate of the Jefferson County Leadership Program and has been accepted to participate in the East Tennessee Leadership Program.
