Andrew Farmer appointed to Southern Legislative Conference Committee

Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, has appointed State Rep. Andrew Farmer, R-Sevierville, to serve on the Human Services & Public Safety Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) of the Council of State Governments (CSG).

Chairman Farmer’s extensive knowledge and his professional experience related to public safety will be extremely beneficial to the Human Services & Public Safety Committee,” said Speaker Sexton. “I appreciate his willingness to serve as we all continue working together to identify and create solutions that build upon our recent efforts creating safe communities in Tennessee and throughout our southern states.”

The SLC Human Services & Public Safety Committee is tasked with addressing the challenges states face in the areas of human services and corrections, as well as policies and programs that address them. The committee frequently undertakes assessments of pressing health issues including the national opioid crisis, organ donations and long-term care, as well as various corrections issues such as aging inmate populations, female offenders and mental health parity in prisons.

At every stage of life, our health and mental health deeply impacts our quality of life and ability to contribute to society. I look forward to collaborating with our neighbors to find solutions impacting our southern states, and most importantly Tennesseans. It is an honor to represent our state on this committee.”

The Southern Legislative Conference is the largest of four legislative groups operating under The Council of State Governments. The purpose of CSG and its groups is to champion excellence in state governments to advance the common good. The SLC comprises the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
