Students Arrested by Jefferson City Police Department following potential or planned acts of violence.

Administrators at Jefferson Middle School discovered information that was immediately shared with the school’s SRO. Administrators acted on the information and removed one student from the general population of the student body. A second student was identified and attends Jefferson Academy, the alternative school for Jefferson County Schools. The second student was also properly monitored. The information obtained was criminal in nature including potential or planned acts of violence.

The SRO notified the appropriate law agencies and following the investigation conducted by law enforcement, two students have been arrested by the Jefferson City Police Department. Those students are facing multiple very serious charges and have been removed from their regular school placements.

The safety and welfare of our students is a top priority and at no time were students in danger from the activity of these two students. Jefferson County Schools is fully cooperating with the ongoing active investigation of local law officials from the Jefferson City Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office following events that transpired today.

Call from Director of Schools to Parents:

“First, I want to provide accurate information concerning a situation that occurred earlier today on the campus of Jefferson Middle School. Administrators at Jefferson Middle School discovered information that was shared with the school’s SRO concerning an initial event that occurred off-campus.

School officials reported the matter to local law enforcement, who have since detained the students involved.  Their investigation is ongoing.

The safety and well-being of our students is our primary concern.  Accordingly, based upon information shared by law enforcement, we have dealt with the students in question.  At no point in time were any other students in jeopardy, and we are taking specific steps to ensure that JMS remains a safe place for our students.

This call is being made so that all our school families receive accurate information.
