“Thank You” for all that they do to protect our citizens and keep peace in our communities

MDW 1st Vice Regent Janet Guyett and Constitution Week Committee Chairman Glenda Roach presented cherry pies to Grainger County Sheriff James Harville, Deputy Lester Carey, and Deputy John Davis.  This was done to honor the service of our area law enforcement departments and to commemorate the 290th Birthday on February 22 of 1st U.S President George Washington.

What do George Washington, Billy Boy (aka Charming Billy), and the law enforcement departments of Jefferson and Grainger counties have in common? Cherries! The young George is supposed to have told the truth about chopping down his father’s cherry tree; Charming Billy’s adolescent fiancé used cherries to swiftly make pies; and the law enforcement departments of Jefferson and Grainger counties received cherry pies in recognition of their service to our communities and to celebrate the 290th anniversary of the birth of 1st U.S. President Washington.

Members of the Martha Dandridge Washington (MDW) Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) led by Member Susie Jarnagin blessed the members of the law enforcement departments in Jefferson and Grainger counties with full cherry pies and Kern’s cherry snack pies on Washington’s birthday to say “Thank You” for all that they do to protect our citizens and keep peace in our communities.

The other ladies who participated in the distribution included MDW 1st Vice Regent Janet Guyett, Chaplain Elizabeth Finchum, Constitution Week Committee Chairman Glenda Roach, Membership Chairman Gail Brosk, and Commemorative Events Committee Chairman Carolyn Mitchell.

The departments who received the sweet treats included the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Grainger County Sheriff’s Department, White Pine Police Department, Dandridge Police Department, New Market Police Department, and Jefferson City Police Department. Twenty large cherry pies and more than 220 individual cherry snack pies made coffee breaks in the departments a little bit special on 2/22/22, Washington’s Birthday and this year’s only palindrome date.
