Representative Jeremy Faison Spearheads Effort To Help Businesses

State Representative Jeremy Faison (R–Cosby) announced last week he has filed HB 311, a pro-small-business bill which helps companies across the state better conduct business.

The Business Freedom Act would require that state departments give “no less than 20 days” for businesses to remedy non-compliance of a law before the department is allowed to assess a monetary penalty.

In addition, Rep. Faison’s legislation also requires that departments must state “the nature and location of the violation, including an exact citation to the law, rule, or regulation alleged to have been violated” to allow local businesses to fix problem areas found.

“Small-businesses are the backbone of our country and it is ridiculous to think that our state government does not allow companies the opportunity to fix a problem before being cited for a violation,” said Rep. Faison. “This legislation fixes an issue that should have been taken care of long ago, and I am proud to support local businesses across the state with this bill.”

Currently, state law does not require a department to allow any timeframe for businesses to fix a problem before calculating a monetary penalty.
