Parrott-Wood Memorial Library Summer Reading Program

Parrott-Wood Memorial Library (3133 W. Old A.J. Hwy., Strawberry Plains, TN) through the Friend of the Parrott-Wood Memorial Library is the proud recipient of two Dollar General Literacy Grants. The library was awarded Summer Reading Grant in the amount of $1,000.00 and an Adult Literacy Grant in the amount of $5,000.00 (adult programs will begin this fall). The Summer Reading grant will ensure children of all ages can enjoy the library’s 2022 Summer Reading Program: Sailing into Many Adventures. These programs will be on Fridays from June 3rd-July-22nd at 10:00 am. Donna Phillips, Director is so grateful for the tremendous support from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and the Friends of Parrott-Wood Memorial Library. She states without grants we could not provide these enrichment programs to the community.

Dollar General Foundation History

Mr. J.L. Turner, co-founder of Dollar General, with only a third-grade education, J.L. was able to overcome tremendous odds and launch a successful retail business. As an extension of Dollar General’s corporate commitment to literacy, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation was established in 1993 to help increase the functional literacy of adults, families and children.
