Dear Editor,

I am Susie Jarnagin and I attended my first town meeting last month. I did not go to hear about zoning but I got an earful. When I listened to the possibility of an enormous subdivision or 2 coming down the pike I was put on high alert future Dandridge is being hijacked.  Let’s step back and look at our situation from a new perspective. Envision a future Dandridge where nature runs supreme. We all enjoy sharing the best case scenario.

Our little town is a refuge for people icluding those just joined our ranks. For this new development on property owned by a man named “Proffitt” to come to fruition it takes time, . Our leaders gave their time and attention at many meetings and seminars. Now the Preliminary plans are starting to become clear. The Big questions are being asked and decided on. Do We have the substructure to handle such an enormous endeavor? Can we provide for the needs exponentionally increased in  our schools, streets, and landfil.  And Actually who wants it? Funny or strange as it may be, our Mayor of 18 years wants it and slowly the aldermen seem to have have gotten on board.  They work with our Town Administrator, who is always smiling and kind. He is really good at smoothing things out. The meeting I went to was actually fun to watch until it felt like the joke was on me.

Please let our town keep its green pastures, stunning scenery coming into and out of town on all sides. Overpopulation here is the worst thing that could happen. We cannot reclaim the peace and tranquility once we let it go. Too many roofs in our city is Not good for the town, whether it means a new grocery store or not. New taxes, who needs them?  We have a balanced budget! We are getting revenue from Tourism founded on the designated Dandridge Historic District, sitting on Gorgeous Douglas Lake. Life is Good!

Map 68 parcel 15 does not need to be what one or two people decided was for them a best case scenario. They could be wrong.  I hope  our citizens will call their mayor and Councilmen before Tuesday at 5 and that the people who care about our future will come out to the Dandridge Police Department  267 W Highway 25 70, Dandridge,to voice their concern.

Susie B Jarnagin, Dandridge
