Following days of frigid temperatures, the East Tennessee Valley had unexpected snowfall Monday evening. Though the accumulations were generally light in the Lakeway area, a small amount of snow caused big problems on local roads. Because the precipitation was not expected, roads were not pretreated. Crews were out Monday evening salting and clearing the main roads but back roads remained treacherous early Tuesday morning. Multiple accidents were reported Monday evening and residents were cautioned to stay off the roads if possible.

Forcasted rising temperatures should help clear a large portion of the snow and underlying ice later today. Tuesday night will see temperatures dip once again into the 20’s and could cause refreezing of any remaining moisture.
