Campaign Finance Guidelines For Candidates

Charles Gibson, Administrator of Elections for Jefferson County, spoke tonight at the February meeting of the League of Women Voters.  The discussion centered on the, “Campaign Finance Guidelines For Candidates,” written by the B.E.C.F. – Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance.  As stated in the BECF, the purpose of the summary is to make potential candidates aware of their responsibilities under the campaign finance statutes.

Some points covered were procedures, by which prospective candidates must follow in order to run for office, proper form filing, contribution limits for individuals and PACs, financial disclosure and how to document donations, and penalties for failing to follow procedures.
